AG to White House: Shut Up About the Clinton Email Investigation

Devlin Barrett reports for the WSJ:

The nation's top law-enforcement official chided the White House on Wednesday for offering opinions about the probe into Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton's use of private email while at the State Department.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch, at Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, said government officials shouldn't be speaking about the sensitive case. She added she hasn't spoken to anyone at the White House about the case, and doesn't plan to do so in the future.

"It's my hope when it comes to ongoing investigations, that we would all stay silent,'' Mrs. Lynch said, responding to questioning by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.).

Mr. Graham had asked the attorney general about recent comments by White House spokesman Josh Earnest suggesting the Justice Department's investigation into Mrs. Clinton's use of a personal email server to conduct government business--and whether that practice may have compromised national security secrets--didn't appear to be targeting Mrs. Clinton. Mrs. Lynch is overseeing the investigation.

It wasn't just Josh Earnest's inapprporiate comments. President Obama never should have stated that Hillary simply "made a mistake" and "national security was [not] endangered."

But with James Comey at the helm of the FBI, I am confident that a just, non-political, recommendation will be made to Ms. Lynch. What she does with it is another matter. Although I am hoping that her level of integrity equals that of Comey.
