An undocumented immigrant with a long history of deportation
was sentenced to 35 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to sodomy, kidnapping, sex abuse and other charges related to separate attacks on two women.

Both attacks took place on July 24 in Portland, Ore.

Martinez entered his first victim’s apartment early in the morning,
through a window she had left ajar to cool down.

Sergio Jose Martinez, who smiled throughout his sentencing hearing,
told his victims’ families that he’d see them in hell as he exited the
courtroom Friday.

A week before the attacks, Martinez was freed from jail in
Portland where he had been held for interfering with police
and providing a false birth date.

U.S. ICE had asked that the Multnomah County Sheriff’s
Office hold him so that ICE could take him into custody.

But Sheriff Michael Reese said he could not legally hold
Martinez without a signed criminal detention warrant from ICE.

Oregon became America’s first sanctuary state in 1987,
and law enforcement cannot detain undocumented immigrants
who have not broken other laws [and they might not even if they
have].

I wonder how the sheriff would like a charge of aiding and abetting an illegal alien avoiding capture.

You can beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride. Ordinarily, I despise that sort of thinking, but when it happens to government officials foisting criminals on society, I say that you have to fight fire with fire.
