This is only tangentially on topic, but cultural decay is the true "root cause" of high crime rates, and declining work ethic is a major component of cultural decay.
The WSJ has this editorial on Geoffrey Owens, once a supporting actor on The Cosby Show and now employed at Trader Joe's.
A funny thing happened on the way to job-shaming a once-famous actor who was found working at a minimum-wage job. Instead of mocking the man's fall from show-biz celebrity, America has embraced him as a champion of the work ethic.
In his younger days, Geoffrey Owens played Bill Cosby's son-in-law Elvin on the hit series, "The Cosby Show." When news broke last week that Mr. Owens was spotted bagging groceries at a Trader Joe's in suburban New Jersey, he says he was devastated. But on ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday--where he appeared proudly sporting a Yale cap and his red Trader Joe's badge--Mr. Owens said the devastation didn't last long because of the outpouring of support he received.
One of those supporters was former NFL player and actor Terry Crews. "I swept floors AFTER the @NFL," he tweeted. "If need be, I'd do it again. Good honest work is nothing to be ashamed of." To Mr. Owens' delight, Mr. Crews' view turned out to be the dominant one.
