Academia and the Duke Case

A very interesting development (in my opinion) in the Duke Rape Case an be found here. Obviously, the Duke case is very controversial and there are hot feelings on both sides. But if the story is true, it demonstrates how the politics of crime, race, and sex has infected academia far too much.

I don't think that too many serious people who have looked at this story think that there is any basis to the charges against the Duke Lacrosse players.

Right, but the post Steve is linking to, by Jim Lindgren at the Volokh Conspirarcy, is about the Duke faculty rather than the underlying case as such.

My not-so-obvious point (which was pretty opaque) is that there really is no justification for "hot feelings" on both sides. Those who think that there should be a trial to vindicate the "victim" are unserious, and any "hot feelings" they have are likely sinister.

As for race etc. infecting academia, I could not agree more. It's truly awful to see.
