Texas Execution Stayed:  The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has granted a last minute stay of execution to Jonathan Marcus Greene as reported by Nancy Flake in the Montgomery County Courier.  Greene  was convicted and scheduled for execution Wednesday for the kidnap, rape and strangulation murder of 12-year-old Christina LeAnn Neal ten years ago.  This AP story by Michael Graczyk notes that evidence of guilt included the girl's partially burned body found in Green's home and DNA evidence identifying him as the rapist.  During the sentencing hearing two women testified that Green had also raped them. Green's appellate attorney, who describes his client as "extremely, extremely mentally ill,"  won the stay after the trial court rejected his claim that Green was mentally incompetent for execution.  The Court has ordered the trial judge to clarify what standard she used to determine Green's competency.  The trial judge has 15 days to respond.  When she learned about the stay, the victim's mother, who traveled to Huntsville for the execution, told reporters "I'm trying to understand what in the world is going on."
