Liu Withdraws

AP reports that Goodwin Liu has formally withdrawn his nomination for the Ninth Circuit.  James Oliphant has this story in the LA Times.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy . . . .

... who undoubtedly will be convinced that his otherwise meritorious nomination was hopelessly derailed because his moderate judicial philosophy was misrepresented by a few "out of the mainstream" loonies.

"...because his moderate judicial philosophy was misrepresented..."

There are currently 875 authorized Article III judgeships: nine on the Supreme Court, 179 on the courts of appeals, 9 on the court of international trade and 678 for the district courts. Could you name, say, 17 of the 875 (or two percent) who are more left wing than Liu? If not, your notion that Liu is a "moderate" is looking a little weak.

That's not his notion, Bill, it's his inference of Liu's self-image.
