Close the Courts

It is a source of pride that the courts of the United States are always open, see, e.g., 28 USC 452.  On the other hand, there are times when we really need to close them, as this story illustrates.

You can't make this stuff up.

You can't. But the victims have to pay for a lawyer. In a sane world, the court would simply dismiss the case and hold this clown in contempt and add an extra 179 days to his prison sentence.

Not that this makes the situation any more palatable but the inmate's filing was in response to the victim's suit seeking $75,000 for emotional distress.

The victim should have sought restitution during the criminal case as recompense. Continuing this in civil court is foolhardy and makes for richly deserved bulletin board material for those who would restrict access to the courts including yours truly.
