A 33-year-old man had to be rescued by firefighters early Monday after he became stuck in the brick chimney of his home in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, got stuck around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, said Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge.
It remained unclear Monday what he was doing there.
Police first reported to the house in the 3300 block of Clay Street and called firefighters, who had to break away some bricks to get the man out. He was stuck inside for an very un-merry hour and was taken to the San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of cuts and scrapes, said police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy.
Police and fire accounts on the incident differ.
Talmadge said the man was being pursued by police and climbed up into the chimney to try to hide. She said she didn't not know why police were trying to get to the man.
Shyy said police officers responded to the scene only because neighbors heard the man yelling for help and called police.
