Death Penalty Initiative Hearings

On May 17, the Public Safety Committees of the two houses of the California Legislature held Joint Legislative Informational Hearings on the two proposed death penalty initiatives, one to repeal and the other to reform the process.

Full videos of the two hearings are available on this site.  Hit the "Next" button a few times to get to May 17.  It's on the fourth page as of this writing.

To watch in smaller bites, the pro-reform campaign has posted individual videos of our side's witnesses on YouTube:
Testifying against the repeal initiative:

Nina Salarno, President of Crime Victims United

Mark Peterson, District Attorney of Contra Costa County

Doug Villars, President of California Association of Highway Patrolmen

Michele Hanisee, President of L.A. County Assn. of Deputy District Attorneys

Kent Scheidegger, Legal Director of Criminal Justice Legal Foundation

Q & A

Testifying in favor of the reform initiative:

Kermit Alexander, Initiative Proponent

Anne Marie Schubert, District Attorney of Sacramento County

Mike Ramos, District Attorney of San Bernardino County

Kent Scheidegger, Legal Director of Criminal Justice Legal Foundation

If you have limited time, I particularly recommend Mr. Alexander's testimony.
