Executions Increased in 2017:  Even with a recent stay of execution granted to Texas murderer Juan Castillo, executions in the U.S. increased in 2017.  Associated Press writer Michael Graczyk reports that after steadily declining for nearly two decades, 23 of the nation's worst murderers were put to death this year compared to 20 in 2016.  This occurred as many states struggle to acquire preferred execution drugs due to what CJLF Legal Director Kent Scheidegger calls an "embargo" pressed on drug manufactures by anti-death penalty groups.  He also attributed the drop in executions since 1999 to the steady drop in homicides over the next 17 years and more selectivity by prosecutors.  But with the uptick in the homicide rate in 2016 and probably this year as well, and recent court decisions rejecting challenges to state use of alternative lethal injection drugs, it is not surprising to see an increase in executions.

During the trial, prosecutors played recordings of Nolen confessing to the stabbings while he was hospitalized following the attack. In the recordings, Nolen says he doesn’t “regret it at all” and that “oppressors don’t need to be here.”

A fired Oklahoma factory worker inflicted a brutal, ISIS-style punishment on
colleagues he tried to convert to Islam — cutting one woman’s head off
with a 10-inch fillet knife, law-enforcement sources said Friday.

Alton Nolen – who has photos of Osama Bin Laden on a Facebook page under the name Jah’Keem Yisrael - ... [his Facebook] page also has a photo of Chchen ISIS fighter Omar al-Shishani and .. “Islam will dominate the world. Freedom can go to hell.”

The tattooed ex-con, 30, [after being fired] stormed out of the plant .. but returned with a vengeance at around 4 p.m. ..
He allegedly stabbed Colleen Hufford, 54, repeatedly, then used the blade to completely cut off her head, according to the sources.

Nolen then allegedly turned his rage on a 43-year-old co-worker, Traci Johnson,
who just happened to be standing nearby — plunging the knife into her body
several times, the sources said.
The bloodbath finally ended when the company’s chief operating officer .. shot
him with a rifle he keeps in the office.
