Are Teachers Racists?  The Obama administration thought so, and implemented "Rethink Discipline" guidelines in 2014 calling for reduced suspensions and expulsions, citing data showing that students of color and those with disabilities were up to three times as likely as white students to face these punishments, often for similar nonviolent offenses. As noted in this piece by Manhattan Institute scholar Heather MacDonald, "Administration officials used litigation and the threatened loss of federal funding to force schools to reduce suspensions and expulsions radically in order to eliminate racial disparities in discipline."  Did this reduce violence and disruptive behavior in schools?  Researchers with the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty recently reported a national increase in school violence including more assaults on teachers and students.  By ignoring the disparities in the behavior of black, white and Hispanic students this policy has forced schools to leave disruptive students in classrooms.  "Teachers are among the most liberal professionals in the country.  Education school is one long marinade in white-privilege theory.  Yet we're supposed to believe that once these social-justice warriors enter the classroom, they are unable to evaluate their black students fairly.  Overcome by prejudice, they see disruption and defiance where none exists."
