Life-Sentenced Killers Who Kill Again

Dear Governor Newsom:

If the murderer described in Cresencio Rodriguez-Delgado's story in the Fresno Bee is, in fact, convicted of the new crime charged, what punishment do you think is appropriate?

(a) Death

(b) No punishment at all (a.k.a. a life sentence for a person already sentenced to life in prison)
A convicted killer accused of murdering his cellmate at Corcoran State Prison was charged Wednesday by the Kings County District Attorney's Office, which laid out graphic details related to the killing.

Prosecutors announced four charges against Jaime Osuna, accused of beheading Luis Romero, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.

The DA's complaint alleges Osuna cut or disabled Romero's tongue, eye, nose, ear and lip "to cause cruel and extreme pain and suffering for the purpose of revenge, extortion, persuasion and for a sadistic purpose."

Osuna was charged with murder, torture, mayhem and being in possession of a weapon. The killing was reported by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on March 9.
An earlier story provided more detail on Osuna's record:

According to prison officials, his cellmate, Jaime Osuna, is considered a suspect. Osuna, 31, is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

This is a problem I’ve always had with the “LWOP keeps society safe,” crowd (including my pope). It is based on the opinion that other inmates and employees are not part of society.
