The prosecution in this case was sickening for anyone who believes in the rule of law. As the judge's opinion shows, there's zero evidence this cop did anything wrong, let alone anything criminal. Kafkaesque prosecutions to satisfy the supposed wishes of an aggrieved group should be repellent to any decent person.

One does not have to be a fan of police misconduct to believe that Officer Nero was a victim here. Fortunately, he gets to walk away---but the people that victimized him will continue to be members of the bar and get to live their lives, even though they, like Nifong, tried to ruin a life with no cause.

The system, of course, will protect these prosecutors. No defense attorney will call for their disbarment (which is deserved); no judge will bar them from his or her courtroom, and the bar won't lift a finger. It is sad that lawyers participated in a show trial, and if the bar won't cleanse the profession of these moral pygmies, we'll see more and more lawyers participating in such evil.

A truly professional prosecutor would have stated that he/she could not ethically prosecute this case. Instead we have shameless hacks willing to trade their good names to participate in tyranny.
