The family-run Twitter account of a young girl who went viral for posing in photos mocking New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been pulled. The family claims to have received death threats for using their daughter to parody photos of a visit Ocasio-Cortez made to a migrant detention camp last year.
Earlier this week, the account had tweeted out several photos of "Mini AOC," an 8-year-old girl named Ava ... widely known for her impersonations of Ocasio-Cortez, standing outside a fenced-off park in an all-white outfit and red lipstick, looking visibly upset.
* * *However, according to FOX News, the condemnation quickly turned ugly, with the 8-year-old's family claiming to have received death threats and harassment."The Left's Harassment and death threats have gone too far for our family. We have been getting calls on our personal phone numbers," Ava's stepfather ... tweeted. "For our safety and for our child's safety, we deleted all Mini AOC accounts."
Here is something else disturbing. I had to really search to find a report of this incident that was not on a conservative-oriented website. My searches on both the NYT and the WaPo came up empty. This is a newsworthy story by any standard. If supporters of a prominent conservative political figure stooped to threatening little girls to silence criticism, that would certainly be reported by both papers, probably on the front page. Here are a couple of new slogan suggestions for you, NYT and WaPo, respectively: "All the news that fits our agenda" and "Democracy grows crooked in polarized light."
Making threats on social media or the telephone is a federal offense. The Supreme Court held in Elonis v. United States that the defendant must be aware of the threatening nature of the communication, but that element seems easily satisfied in this case. (It was in Elonis also, the court of appeals held on remand.) I hope that this case is thoroughly investigated and, if the perpetrators are identified, vigorously prosecuted.

Reading Mr. Scheidegger’s comment reveals that he never suggested that only the left makes such threats. If you really wanted to refute his point, you would have found an NPR article that reported on the Mini AOC story as opposed to the NPR you did find. That you did not implies that you cannot (I couldn’t either), which was the obvious point of the post.
Those threats certainly are deplorable and certainly should be punished. However, Dr. Ford is not a little girl, so your example is not an example of "that."
As David notes, NPR did report those threats. I had to do multiple searches to find the "Mini AOC" story on *any* news outlet that does not have an identifiably conservative orientation.
I guess capital defense lawyers -- and perhaps other segments of society --
don't appreciate the difference between a convicted multi-murderer,
